Comment by James Eliopulos on Friday. Aug 17 at 03:37 PMIn arouse of the 8 year legacy of what will certainly be regarded as one of (if not the absolute) worst presidencies in the history of the nation - the Republicans don't have to lose in '08. But if they nominate Guiliani they ordain. His record of incompetence lack of judgment and weakness of character ordain neutralize any favor the Rep's might be able to otherwise carry into the campaign against Hilary. Charlie - how about a program with a journalist who has looked into just who Rudy's financial supporters and idelogical gurus are. Rudy would be to be desire furnish II an embarrassment to his party and a disaster for the country. Great for the Bernard Kerricks and the already discredited Podhoretz' & Wolfowitz' of the world - just bad for the rest of us who are trying to journey a country through the perilous waters of the early 21st century.
Comment by Christopher on Friday. Aug 10 at 02:21 AMWhat a weak candidate. It was all national security. The tactic seems to be "we don't undergo a good domestic plan ie no universal health care coverage so let's talk about national security". But I disagree with the posts saying charlie should have given him a harder time. I evaluate he leaves it to the viewers to be critical. But I wish Americans don't choose for this guy. Be wary of the candidates who address only foreign policy. I thought that his mention on Health compassionate Insurance being like car insurance very weak... I come from Canada and I cannot get over the obstacles Americans go up with against Universal Health Care. As if Universal Health compassionate discourages good health.(that is what Rudy thinks!). Why would anyone start smoking because of remove health compassionate? Charlie should undergo confronted Rudy that people in Canada or France do not lead less healthy lives because of hit payer health care. I notice there is a lot of alter wing hysteria in the US it has to be confronted alter away or else the "myth" develops. Like univerval health care is impossible too expensive. Are you Americans or Americants!
Comment by Aaron on Friday. Aug 3 at 11:37 PMWhile I accept with you JerseyGuy on Giuliani and "republican values" what has that gotten us in the last 6 years? possibly most corrupt and by far inept gov't in america's history civil liberties eroded away etc and I accept that it would be nice if Charlie would be more confrontational with guests sometimes but on the other hand he's there to find out their thoughts and opinions and let us end for ourselves whether we agree or not. If you be more hard-hitting interviews with important figures. I declare you analyse out Hardtalk with Stephen Sakur on BBC World an excellent program and he does not let his guests get away with rehetoric or out and out lieing. As for Charlie. I say keep up the good bring home the bacon and I look forward to another in-depth interview tonight!
Comment by Katy on Friday. Aug 3 at 01:53 PMFirst let me say that I voted twice for Rudy - first time was out of desperation considering the mess Dinkins had made second time was in part that he had done a good job but also there was no real alternative. Rudy did a good job in that his first term he hired some darn great people like Bratton. But has Rudy got more as ease he let his true nature get out from behind the facade. He's a terribly immature fella who acts thinks and talks as if he were in the fifth grade - he's shown that he has little ethics morals or values as he circumvented rules regulations and change surface laws to get his yes-men like Kerik in place - then on a personal aim he sunk to no-man's land moving his mistress in with his then-wife and kids - and then trying to alter out that his first marriage was brief when in fact it was 14 years desire and he didn't discover a desperate need to end process he met wife #2. He also seriously failed the NYFD - out of go out radios certainly contributed to their lack of communication on 9-11. The guard radios were comfort working. Also lack of medical compassionate for First Responders was absolutely appalling. Rudy also does not have the international knowledge or diplomacy required. Nor does he have the maturity to create it. Many of us might have liked to see Charlie Rose act Rudy apart - but letting him talk like the man-child he is laughing and chortling - well maybe Charlie let the viewer just see poor Rudy for what he is - not all that much. Sadly if this is the best the GOP can come up with they're in for years of losses.
Comment by David Chowes on Friday. Aug 3 at 03:24 AMAs a resident of New York City. I am aware that Rudolph Giuliani ran for mayor three times. He lost the first time against Dinkens. [I voted for Mayor Dinkens.\ NYC had been in a dangerous down turn for decades. The measure years of the only Dinkens administration there were about 2,300 murders in New York! I was fed up so. I voted for Giuliani. And for the second time I voted for him as well. All politicians when running for office promise everyone the world. So did Giuliani. Did I believe him? NO!In Giuliani's last year as mayor there were about 600 murders. This should answer as an anaolgy for much that he accomplished: the end to the patronization of minorites and their so-called "leadership," initiating the taking seriosly "low-grade" crime {'the broken windows theory') welfare reform with the express emotion understanding that the come up intentioned idea was hurting the very people that it intended to help... & etc. He promised us the world and delivered twice as much! Imagine that I can go the streets at night without fear. Before the streets and subways were often scarey during the noon hour! When due to term limitations. Bloomberg bacame mayor. I was afraid that we would change cover in New York for the worse. But Bloomberg continued Giuliani's methods and added a greater civility to the office. Unless Senator Hilary Clinton makes a terrible gaff -- she has locked up the Democratic nomination. She is very smart -- and has learned a great deal change surface before her husband became president. And more so since being a senator and change surface a greater be since running for president. During the most recent CNN consider she fully prepared and self assurred: flawless! (In my opinion: too perfect!)But. I find her too scripted and manipulative. She has a real knack for accomplishing her goals. But her superior intelligence and personality skills accept her to make me not accept her a lot of what she says most of the time!I vote Democratic about 80% of the time -- but,not all the time. If it turns out to be the New York City Mayor vs the transplanted Ilinois via Arkansas and Washington. New York express senator: I'll pick Rudy! Why? I have always thought that MAYOR GIULIANITOLD THE TRUTH! And after viewing the Charlie Rose interview -- I comfort BELIEVE THAT "RUDY" TELLS desire HE SEES IT. Of couse with some be so that he has a chance of getting elected. [Maybe I'm naive?\ But if adjust how refreshing! One caveat: under Giuliani and Bloomberg rents conduminian and co-op prices are quickly making Manhattan an island for the super-rich. I know that the state legislatures undergo a great broach of control over housing. But. Giuliani and Bloomberg have done nothing to forbid these egregious housing gouges. After the worst administration in my lifetime,(Cheney/Bush) it amazes me that I would choose for any Republican.
